Beautiful World, Where Are You

[Sally Rooney, 2021]

4.0/5.0
I relate more to these characters than I may care to admit in reality. I forgot what it was like to relate to words and want to highlight passages. Long form distanced communication that takes time and effort feels like a lost art in the age of short content proliferating. The difference in writing between Eileen and Alice frustrates me, with Eileen's consideration for Alice as an afterthought using her emails to Alice like a diary. Not good friend material imo...
Fourth Wing

[Rebecca Yarros, 2023]

3.0/5.0
I am hesitant to admit that I could not put this book down. The story and premise is exciting and I found myself giggling at character intereactions more than a few times. I read a foreword for one of Stephen King's novels about poor writing having sentences that take you out of the story because it's poorly written, and this book honestly was the epitome of that idea, which made it hard to enjoy thoroughly. Dragons and telepathy is unarguably intriguing and entertaining, but I don't foresee myself investing in the rest of the series - it's not worth the time.
